Yesterday Marley had surgery on the broken leg and the hip on the side of the broken leg. He did very well, and was hobbling along. The vet has decided not to do surgery on the other hip, they feel that the muscle will take over. They are very pleased with his progress, hopefully he can go home soon.

Surgery

Marley's surgery went very well today, this surgery was to repair the hind leg that was broken in 4 places. The vets were very pleased at the outcome and feel he may not need the hip surgery since he is compensating well. I have clarified more of the story, about his reappearace, a neighbor saw him walking down the road toward the house, he made his way to the house and laid under the trailer. She watched over him until mom arrived. It is a mystery what happened, mom says it was like he just vanished, Marley does not run out in the road, plus they live on a dead end without much traffic, and he surely wouldn't have gone out to the main road. But there was a truck driving back and forth that day that stopped and idled a minute and the sped away. HMM???

Update

Marley is currently in the ICU of the Texas A&M Veterinary Hospital. They are attempting one surgery today and maybe another two surgeries if he does well under anesthesia. He is on IV fluids and morphine. Throughout this ordeal even before pain meds, Marley never growled or tried to bite anyone. Mom told me a funny story today, while they were on the way to A&M they got lost so they called the hospital and mom said "We are trying to bring our SON in and we are lost." That Freudian slip confirms that Marley really is more than just a dog.

Tragedy

Marley has unfortunately been stolen twice, but has been returned home both times, once he was gone for about 3 months. Last Sunday, Marley was in the yard and what we believe happened was another attempt to steal him. Marley was gone all of Sunday night and Monday night. On Tuesday evening a neighbor spotted Marley under a trailer at the house. Marley had a broken leg and as we would later find out a broken pelvis. He is currently at Texas A&M undergoing surgery for his leg which is shattered in four places. It is possible that he may not be able to use the leg and may need an amputation. Only Marley knows how this happened but we believe he was taken and then must have jumped out of a truck and maybe then been hit by a car. All we know is that he made his way home with a badly broken leg, the vet believed the fracture was over 24 hours old when they went Tuesday night. I believe God listens to our prayers even about our dogs, so I am going to keep praying for Marley's recovery.

Who is Marley?

Marley is a 3 year old American Pit Bull Terrier that belongs to Dennis and Pam (my mom). I know, I really wasn't fond of the fact that Marley was a "pit bull". I had all of the preconceived notions about "those kinds of dogs". However in the last few years, I have grown to love Marley and he is part of the family. He is sweet as can be and gets so excited when company comes over. He especially loves Tyler (my youngest son). The most dangerous thing about Marley is his tail!
